Isabel II, 56 años de servicio como reina



Se conmemora hoy el 56 aniversario de la muerte de Jorge VI y el acceso al trono del Reino Unido de Isabel II si bien la ceremonia de Coronación no sería hasta el 2 de junio de 1953.

Coincidiendo con esta efeméride, se ha anunciado que próximamente se rodará la segunda película de "The Queen" que será interpretada por la misma actriz que dio vida a Isabel II en la gran pantalla, Hellen Mirren.

La primera película se desarrollaba en los días posteriores a la muerte de la Princesa Diana. La segunda parte se basará en las celebraciones del 50 aniversario de la Coronación de Isabel II.

The Queen is due to mark the anniversary of her accession to the throne privately at Sandringham.

The Monarch will reflect on the death of her father King George VI and the start of her reign 56 years ago.

It was at Sandringham that the King died peacefully in his sleep early on the morning of February 6 1952 after suffering from lung cancer.

Princess Elizabeth was at Sagana Hunting Lodge, Nyeri, in the foothills of Mount Kenya with Prince Philip when the news of her father's death reached her.

They had spent the night before at the Treetops Hotel in Aberdare Forest watching big game.

Royal gun salutes are fired around the country on Accession Day.

A 41-gun salute will be performed by the King's Troop Royal Horse Artillery in Hyde Park and a 61-gun salute at Gun Wharf, the Tower of London, by the Honourable Artillery Company.

The extra 20 guns signify the salute is fired from a Royal Palace.

Mirren wants The Queen sequel

Actress Dame Helen Mirren, who won an Oscar award for her performance in The Queen, is keen for a sequel.

The Queen was based around the events surrounding the death of Diana, Princess of Wales, in 1997. Thesun.co.uk reports that Mirren wants the sequel to be based on Queen's celebration of 50 years on the throne in 2002. She is ready to go through the transformations necessary to portray the role in

She said: "The Queen was such an individual, idiosyncratic film. It was one of a kind. You can't repeat that. People have asked, 'Is there going to be a sequel?' Yes, lets do the Golden Jubilee. That would be interesting."
